Having started life as a gymnast, Kelly tried judo following a ‘bribe’ from her mum when she needed extra pocket money.  Kelly has since been fortunate enough to have represented Great Britain numerous times.  In June 2012, Kelly was selected to represent Team GB at the 2012 London Olympics in the under 48 kg event.  Kelly lists this as a great honour and a highlight of her career to date.

Kelly has since moved up to the -52 Kg weight category and has also relocated to train at the British Judo Centre of Excellence, with a number of World class training partners and World class coaching and support teams. Kelly won a Silver medal in the -52kg weight category at Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Following advice from a neurologist Kelly had to take an enforced break from judo, which forced her to miss the Rio Olympic Games, due to a concussion injury. Upon her return to the sport at the end of 2016, Kelly put in some medal winning performances at the international Judo Grand Prix events, before she won Gold at the World Cup event in Glasgow. With the European Championships taking place in April and the World Championships in August, 2017 promises to be an exciting year for Kelly.
